Sally Kindberg, knots and sailors
I like knots, in fact I once wrote and illustrated a book about them, as well as learning how to tie them, on a basic sailing course on the North Sea years ago. It was fascinating to talk to former … Continue reading

Sally Kindberg will talk about her work in May at Graphic Brighton
Looking forward to talking about my work, for younger audiences this time, and meeting other comic strip creators at Graphic Brighton this May. Extract from Fishboy above, and below, from a series of comic strips for CBBC.

Sally Kindberg escapes to the seaside
There have been builders in the upstairs flat for the last three months, and they’re still there. Every so often I’ve managed to escape dust clouds and noise to go to the seaside for a couple of days, and the … Continue reading

Sally Kindberg – isolation, seaside longings and playing with handwriting
Dreaming of being able to go on day trips again to the coast and walk the salt marshes, or of long but pleasurable train journeys to the south west (where I was born). Still in isolation after more than six … Continue reading

Sally Kindberg’s visit to Dorset
My journey last week from London to Axminster didn’t start well. South Western Rail decided to cut the number of coaches from six to three, and these were packed. En route at Gillingham we were told to leave the train … Continue reading

Hastings visit
A brief visit to Hastings, where I breathed sea air and called in at the Jerwood, and enjoyed walking briskly (I didn’t have a horse) past Mark Wallinger’s reference to Victorian photographer Eadweard Muybridge.

Penzance and St Ives visit
It was 32 degrees in London recently, pollution levels were high and I began to croak and wheeze. I just had to get away and breathe some sea air. That’s my excuse anyway. I checked the weather forecast, packed a … Continue reading

Margate – Dreamland, Wall of Death and Turner’s paintbox
Visit to the seaside and Turner Contemporary to see Grayson Perry again, distracted by JMW Turner‘s paintbox crammed with everything an artist might need including a spot of morphia to treat a pesky stomach ache. As I had one at … Continue reading
Blessing of the Sea ceremony, Margate, Kent
The friendly warmth of St Michael the Archangel’s church in Margate was very welcome – a harsh winter wind was blowing outside. I’d associated Maidstone with Turner and Travey Emin and seaside walks, and didn’t know anything about the strong Greek … Continue reading
