On May 14th St Paul’s (aka the Actors’ Church) Covent Garden teemed with colourful policemen, Punch and Judy performers, clowns, puppets, Pearly Queens and other assorted characters.
Years ago I met Professor Leslie Press, son of another Punch and Judy Professor, Percy Press, whose memorial plaque hangs in the church. This chance meeting led to my getting to know Leslie, who was born in a house just down the road from where I now live, and putting on an exhibition about him.
This time I was there not just to enjoy the Fair, but to sell some of my Hand Books (see image above). One of the Trustees of Pollocks Toy Museum very kindly let me display copies of my Hand Books on the Pollocks table.
