Sally Kindberg’s House of Delights workshop at Pollocks Toy Museum

What better venue to celebrate almost-Christmas than to run a workshop at the magical Pollocks Toy Museum in Fitzrovia, London? And what more appropriate way to travel there than by a pair of wings? Although I’d forgotten about the hazards of the Underground tunnels’ down draught which almost resulted in their almost being blown away, but happily I arrived safely.

What would you fill with your paper House of Delights?  Participants on December 17th were encouraged to explore the Museum and be inspired by its wonders – dolls,  mechanical animals, rocking horses, teddy bears and of course Pollocks Toy Theatres, as recommended by Charles Dickens and Robert Louis Stevenson amongst many others.

After the workshop you could wander round the Museum, under the intense gaze of cabinets full of dolls from around the world, including one which survived her journey from Kent to the Wild West via the Rocky Mountains in 1825. More about this soon.

You can visit the toyshop on the ground floor, which by the way, stocks my Hand Book and greeting cards featuring some of the hand images.

A few days after my workshop, on December 20th, actor Miriam Margolyes appeared in a Channel 4 programme about Christmas, which featured Pollocks toy Museum

And now my wings are resting a bit, before new adventures start again in 2023, so Happy New Year to everyone reading this.

  1. This sounds lovely, Sally, I wish I’d come along. Do let me know what else you’re doing – well in advance if possible. Let’s meet soon for a coffee.

    Happy New Year!
