August is carnival time in Fowey in Cornwall, a major event in this part of the world, and my Monster drawing events competed for attention with a giant walnut-cracking crab, the Red Arrows aerobatic team, a huge fancy-dress parade and the arrival by boat of an eight-foot long Cornish pasty, accompanied by its own band. But I needn’t have worried. Children at Fowey and St Austell libraries turned up and produced witty and wonderful comic strips and drawings for their library topic on all things creepy, inventing a whole new range of scary creatures whose eyeballs had come loose (as they do). And bought signed copies of my Draw It Monster books – hooray.
